hCG FAQ
What is hCG?
It is human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone produced by pregnant women that acts on the diencephalon, a part of the human brain from which the central nervous system controls all the automatic functions of the body, including digestion. The current theory is that the diencephalon controls how fat is stored in the body. Taking hCG causes the diencephalon to take fat out of long term storage so that it can be used as fuel by the body. The fat will be removed from unnecessary storage pools such as love handles, belly rolls, fat interlaced with muscle tissue, etc. The face and breasts will retain normal amounts of fats, so you don't get the gaunt, malnourished look that some diets produce.
How do you take hCG?
The original protocol of Dr. Simeons required daily injections. We use sublingual drops of real hCG, compounded by a pharmacy. Several clinical trials have shown the sublingual drops to be effective, and we feel this is the most convenient way to be sure you have the correct dosing of hCG.
Why not just get the homeopathic hCG sold in health food stores or on the internet?
Homeopathic hCG drops do not actually contain any hCG and represent a misuse of the art of homeopathy as well. Besides, the health food store and online dealer do not offer face to face clinical consultations and followups.
How long does an hCG treatment last?
The round of treatment can last anywhere from 26 to 40 days, depending upon the amount of weight you need to lose. Doctor Laule will tell you specifically how many days your treatment will take, and if you will need to take additonal treatments later. Multiple treatments are spaced at least 6 weeks apart so that your body does not become immune to the effects of hCG.
What is the treatment protocol?
You eat a fat-loading diet for the first three days of taking hCG. This fills out all the normal fat cells in the body, giving you reserves to rely upon until the hCG begins to instruct the body to use up abnormal fat deposits. On the fourth day of treatment, you start the 500 calorie diet. It is very strict and very specific about what you can eat. If you have eaten the fat loading diet, you will find you are not hungry on this low calorie diet. You continue the 500 calorie diet for three days after finishing the hCG. Then you go on a low carb, no sugar diet for three weeks. The doctor will go into greater detail with you about this protocol.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
It is common to gain a bit during the fat-loading diet, but this is soon lost. By the fourth day, patients are usually losing about 2 pounds a day. After the fourth or fifth day, weight loss may decrease to one pound or somewhat less a day.
How can I expect to feel while on the treatment?
It is common, after the day of the third dose of hCG, to start feeling different. It is also common, after the fat loading diet,to find it difficult to get food down and to lose interest in food. Many patients notice an increase in urine output and a reduction of swelling in their ankles. On the fourth day, most petients say they are feeling fine. They feel empty but not hungry. Some complain of a mild headache. During the fifth and sixth day of treatment, the headache symptoms generally improve. During treatment you may find you need less sleep. Towards the end of the treatment, some patients report that lifting a weight or walking upstairs requires a greater muscular effort than before. This phenomemon, which disappears soon after the end of the treatment, iscaused by the removal of abnormal fat deposited between, in, and around the muslces. The removal of this fat makes the muscles too long, and so they have to perform a greater contraction than before to bend an arm or leg. Within a short time the muscle adjusts itself. It is less likely to occur if a patient takes regular exercise before and during the treatment.
Is weight loss steady?
After the fourth or fifth day, the daily weight loss begins to decrease to one pound or somewhat less per day, and there is a smaller urinary output. There may even be no loss for two or three days, and then a sudden loss. The reason for this is that fat is being extracted from cells that are now empty. The body breaks down these cells and absorbs it. This process may lag behind fat extraction. When this happens, the body appears to replace some of the extracted fat with water, which is heavier than fat. When the useless tissue is finally broken down, the water is liberated, there is a flood of urine, and a marked loss in weight. Some patients experience a plateau when no weight is lost. It lasts 4-6 days and frequently occurs during the second half of treatment. A plateau always corrects itself. Of course, if you have concerns over symptoms any time during the treatment, call Dr. Laule.
What will happen when I stop hCG?
The diencephalons will have adjusted itself, if you have followed the protocol properly, and you will continue to have good energy and be content with less food than you previously ate. You will not deposit fat as easliy in love handles, belly fat, and cellulite. This effect lasts for a year or two, sometimes, more, in most people.
